Silly Old Bear Pop Up Card

It’s Wednesday and I have a fun pop-up card using the Silly Old Bear DSP. It’s a simple card with a twist that makes it look 3D. It folds flat so you can fit it easily into an envelope. You could jazz it up by adding some leaves and acorns from the Sweet Words & Labels dies around the sentiment and scattered on the strip the animals are standing on. So many possibilities!

Stampin’ Up! has updated their Last Chance product list. Check it out! Now on to the card.

To make the card base, I cut a piece of Peaceful Pine cardstock with the largest arch from my Everyday Arches dies on my Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine. From the Silly Old Bear DSP, I cut the second largest arch. I used the tree over the water for mine, but you could use one of the other larger images. You could also use the tree background pattern.

I adhered my DSP to my card base arch using my favorite adhesive (Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Stampin’ Seal).

I die cut the largest arch from Basic White cardstock. I scored ⅜” from the top of the arch. I folded back on the scoreline, applied glue to THE FLAP ONLY and added it to the back of my card. This is the hinge that opens the card. This acts as the back of a top folding card. I initially thought my strips would help my card stand up but they didn’t. Adding the back gives more room to write your message.

To make the pop-up feature, I cut a 1″ x 5-7/16″ strip and another ¾” x 5-7/16″ on my Paper Trimmer. (Sorry for the oddball measurement, but it fits on the card better.) I scored each end of each strip at ¼”, ½”, and ¾” and accordion pleated them and burnished the folds with my Bone Folder.

I added glue to the end tabs of the wider strip. I added this to my card. I pressed the mechanism flat against the card to make sure it worked. I repeated this with the narrower strip and added it to the previous strip. Sorry the last photo is a little blurry.

I fussy cut some of the animals from the DSP with my Detail Scissors. I added these to my card by gluing them onto the popped-up strips.

For the sentiment, I stamped Old friends are the best friends from Sweet Words and Labels bundle with Black ink. I die cut the sentiment with the smallest label die in the set. I cut a couple scraps of Peaceful Pine cardstock and glued them behind the openings in the label. You could skip this if you don’t mind the DSP peeking through.

I added the sentiment with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

To finish the card, you can stamp a greeting inside the card or leave it blank until you’re ready to send it.

I hope you liked this card!
