My good friend Marilyn Falco made this BEAUTIFULLY detailed card to showcase on today’s blog!
Begin with a piece of Crumb Cake Cardstock cut to 4-1/4 x 7 inches. Score at 3/8″, 1-3/8″, 5-5/8″, and 6-5/8″. Fold and burnish each score line in a mountain fold. This is the card base.
Cut an additional piece of Crumb Cake Cardstock to a 4-1/4″ square. Cut a 3-1/2″ inch square from the center of this square using a die or paper cutter to make a frame.
Cut Whisper White Cardstock into four pieces: 4″x 4″ (glue to the back of the base to write your message), 4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″, 4-3/4″ x 2-1/2″, and 4-3/4″ x 1-3/4″. Score the last two pieces at 1/4″ and 4-1/2″.
Using a scrap of Whisper White Cardstock , stamp the dock from the By the Dock Stamp Set, and the sailboats from the Sailing Home Cling Stamp Set. Make sure to stamp them in Memento Ink. Use the dies from Dockside Dies and Smooth Sailing Dies to cut out the stamped images. Color using Stampin’ Blends, water color pencils, or Stamp and Write markers.
Tip: When coloring the sailboats, add Pool Party Light Stampin’ Blends Marker around the bottom of the cutouts to blend more easily with the water.
Using a Sponge Daubers, blend Garden Green Ink on the bottom of the cattails. Color the cattails with the Early Espresso Stamp and Write Marker. (Tip: Flip one of the cattails over before adding color. This will help add interest to your card. I also slipped a Post-It note under the cutouts near the bottom of the cattail pieces before adding the ink. It helps give it depth.)
From Snow Front Stamp Set, stamp the largest pine tree in Mossy Meadow first and second generation along the mountain line. Stamp the next tallest pine tree with Shaded Spruce, first and second generation. Adhere this piece to the inside of the Crumb Cake card base.
Using the remaining 2 pieces of Whisper White Cardstock, blend Pool Party Ink lightly on both pieces. Stamp the water image from High Tide Stamp Set with Pool Party Ink. (You could also use the water image from By the Dock if you’d prefer.) Fold and burnish the score lines, mountain fold.
Glue the tab from the larger piece to the inside left wall of the card base near the mountain image, lining it up with the bottom of the card. Glue the smaller piece in front of it, also lining up the bottom. There should be about 1/4″ between the two pieces.
When the tack is strong. flatten the card base, allowing the 2 pieces to extend over the mountain and tree image. Add glue to the right side tabs and fold the right side back over to adhere. Work the card back, pressing it to flatten toward the right. This ensures it will fold flat and fit into the envelop. Open the card when it is secure.
Next, glue the sailboats to the water images with the smaller one in the back and the larger one in front.
Glue the Crumb Cake frame to the left side tab lining up the top, bottom, and side. Adhere the right side. You can press the card down to the right to make sure it will still compress.
Adhere the dock to the left side of the frame. Adhere the cattails along the bottom.
The finished card will measure 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ when flattened and will fit into an A2 envelope. The face is 4-1/4 inch square.
This would be a great Father’s Day card. You can add your greeting to the top of the frame or on the back. If you would like to stamp the greeting on the back, I recommend stamping the greeting before adhering the 4″ square to the back of the card.
