Ocean Friends Hello Card

It’s Simple Saturday and I have an easy card using the Ocean Friends stamp set and dies bundle, along with the coordinating Friends of the Ocean DSP. Both of these products are on the Last Chance list, so get them while they are still available. Click here to see all the Last Chance Products.

To make the card base, I cut a piece of Coastal Cabana cardstock to 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ on my Paper Trimmer, scored and folded at 4-1/4″, and burnished with my Bone Folder. I cut an additional piece of Coastal Cabana cardstock to 4″ x 5-1/4″ to act as a matte. I embossed this with my So Swirly Embossing Folder on my Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine. If you prefer, you could skip this step and emboss the front of the card itself. This does weaken the cardstock, and the front will be flimsy, but the panel I later glued on to it does give it a bit of substance. I adhered my embossed piece to my card base with my favorite adhesive (Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Stampin’ Seal).

I cut a piece of Calypso Coral cardstock to 3-1/4″ x 3-1/4″. I cut a piece of the Friends of the Ocean DSP to 3″ x 3″. I adhered the DSP to the cardstock matte and then glued it to my card base, centering top and sides.

I cut the seaweed strands with the Ocean Friends stamp and die bundle from both Lemon Lime Twist cardstock and Granny Apple Green cardstock for a total of four, two from each color. These have a cut down the middle and are a little delicate to remove from the dies. I used my Take Your Pick Tool to gently loosen the cardstock from the dies. You could also put a piece of wax paper between the cardstock and dies before cutting for easier removal.

I stamped the outline of the crab image from the Ocean Friends stamp and die bundle with Calypso Coral ink on a scrap piece of Basic White cardstock. I stamped the filler image with Peach Pie ink. I cut the crab out with the coordinating die.

I stamped Hello, Friend from the stamp set on a strip of Basic White cardstock with Coastal Cabana ink and trimmed it down close to the words with my Paper Trimmer. You could use Paper Snips, also, if you can cut straight. I find it easier to use the trimmer myself, but everyone has their talents. I glued this to a strip of Melon Mambo cardstock and trimmed it to leave a narrow border, once again, on my Trimmer. If you find it difficult to hold the narrow strips down, use a Post-It note to help position it. It gives you something to hold on to.

I adhered the seaweed strands to my focal panel on the left side. I adhered the crab using Stampin’ Dimensionals. I added my sentiment with Stampin’ Dimensionals to the lower right-hand corner of the card. For a bit of bling that I thought resembled bubbles, I added three Rhinestones.

To finish the card, I glued a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Basic White cardstock inside the card. You can leave it blank to add a message later or stamp a sentiment.

I hope you liked this fun and colorful card!
