Storybook Friends Easter Card

Today’s card features the cute Storybook Friends stamps and dies. The images are reminiscent of Beatrice Potter’s beloved Peter Rabbit and his friends. Who didn’t love reading those tiny green bound books?

To make the card base, I cut a piece of Pool Party cardstock to 4-1/4″ x 11″ on my Paper Trimmer, scored and folded at 5-1/2″, and burnished with my Bone Folder. I cut a piece of Basic White cardstock to 4″ x 5-1/4″ and ran this through my Exposed Brick 3D Embossing Folder on my Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine. I cut a strip of Old Olive cardstock to 1″ x 4-3/4″. I cut a piece of Storybook Moments DSP to 2″ x 3-1/2″.

With a piece of Wild Wheat cardstock, I die cut the frame below from the Storybook Friends dies which is part of the Storybook Friends bundle. This die cuts the frame, so I cut an additional frame from Basic White cardstock for the inside piece. I stamped the rabbit from the bundle in Momento Tuxedo Black ink on the white piece.

I stamped the stone wall from the bundle on a scrap of Smoky Slate cardstock in Momento Tuxedo Black ink. This made coloring the stone wall easier. I used the brush end of a Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blend to add some texture to the stones by lightly brushing it across the stones, and to fill in the spaces between the stones. I used Old Olive Stampin’ Blends to color the bushes. I fussy cut the stones along the top edge.

To color the rabbit, I used Stampin’ Blends: Crumb Cake, Ivory, Petal Pink, and Pool Party. I used a Sponge Dauber to add Pool Party ink around the edge of the piece. I used a Sponge Dauber to add Wild Wheat ink to the edges of the frame to give it an antiqued look.

I glued my stone wall piece to the bottom of my rabbit piece using my favorite adhesive (Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Stampin’ Seal). I trimmed the excess with my Paper Snips. It is easier to trim if you flip the piece over and trim from the back. I glued this piece onto a slightly bigger piece of Basic White cardstock (you could use any color really) and trimmed around my image leaving about a 1/8″ border. I laid my frame on this and checked to make sure no white was exposed before gluing the frame on by applying glue to the edge I just created. You could tape it together, but I preferred something a little more substantial.

To give the Old Olive strip a bit of texture, I stamped the little house image from the stamp set in Old Olive ink. I let the image go off the edge of the strip instead of stamping it down the middle to make it look more random.

The last little bit is the sentiment. I stamped Happy Easter from the stamp set in Pool Party ink on a strip of Basic White cardstock and trimmed it down close to the words. I glued this to a piece of Pool Party cardstock and trimmed it down leaving a narrow border.

To assemble the card, I glued the embossed panel to my card base. Next, I glued my Old Olive strip about 1/2″ from the left edge, centering top and bottom. I glued my DSP piece about 1/2″ from the bottom, centering right to left. I adhered my framed focal image with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I adhered my sentiment with Dimensionals, also. For a bit of sparkle, I added three Rhinestones, with one positioned at the top of the frame in the little cutout there.

To finish the card, I stamped a sentiment on a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Basic White cardstock and glued it inside the card.

I hope you liked this simple, but sweet card.
